New drawings
On the drawings
Ágnes Hincz's "recent drawings" are the products of the past one and a half years. They were made on paper, each 100x70 cm size, with black pigment. Each and every one is in landscape format. They do not make a series, nor do they have titles, but they can be seen both together or individually.
According to Ágnes Hincz, this is suffice to know about the drawings. It is difficult to add anything beyond this. The drawings are mysterious. The drawer doesn't speak.
These drawings do not represent anything, though some almost look like an object, and some suggest physical sights. Their forms are startling, but not unnatural. With a closer look, one can even discover natural or naturalistic features.
There is no trace of corrections or hesitation. The pigment is permanent, it cannot be removed from the paper. I asked Ágnes Hincz how it was possible to draw nearly a hundred, straight, 18 cm long lines, onto almost the same surface. She merely replied that it was possible. With a great deal of persistance she eventually showed me how it was done, and I was very surprised.
One goes wrong if s/he tries to understand these drawings. There is no need for and there is nothing to understand. These drawings are the products of an inhuman logic without any need of sentimental ideas. They are the excercises of a gymnast who can never tire.
